It has come to that time of year where people are looking towards the New Years Eve celebrations and the beginning of 2009. With the change of the year people are starting to turn their attention to buying calendars for 2009. Calendars are a perfect present for the New Year and there are a wide range of calendars available that you can find one to match anybodies personality.
You usually find that you get the standard calendars featuring pin ups, football teams, cute animals and more but in Britain we also have quirky and unique calendars, which have become very popular. A calendar can represent the broad range of personalities that there are in the UK and the Calendar club regularly report on the surprising and not so surprising calendars that are a big hit.
Landscapes and nature are a firm favourite and come in a variety of styles. You tend to get a lot of calendars that feature beautiful photos of the beautiful countryside in the United Kingdom and these tend to look like an advertisement for British walking holidays and seaside towns. There are so many examples of areas like Bournemouth and Poole beaches, folks walking in the Yorkshire meadows and British castles. You will also find metropolitain landscapes featuring some of the United Kingdom’s biggest towns and cities in some of the most popular streets in these areas. London, Birmingham and Manchester are often featured as they have many famous tourist attractions but as well as this you also get to see all the Manchester restaurants and London buses.
Calendars featuring artists are always popular whether they are painted landscapes, photos of people and places, portraits or abstract art. These calendars are either a selection of individual artwork by a single artist or a collection of art prints by a whole host of artists. Beryl Cook is an extremely fashionable UK artist from Plymouth, that has a very popular calendar of Beryl Cook prints. Other UK born artists like Tim Bulmer and Doug Hyde have had their work featured in a collection of British artists work.
As for the quirky calendars, Britain has a vast history of producing interesting calendars to raise money for charity. Some recent inclusions and additions have been the naked farmers as well as the partially naked pictures of WI members, which then became a film. In 2009 tractors are a popular theme, with one calendar having 365 different pictures of tractors, one for every day. Then there are the dogs trying out yoga and water skiing and goats too are a very popular calendar to have in 2009. There is however one unstoppable calendar giant that sells by the boatload each year and hasn’t been out of the top 10 for the past 25 years and that man is Cliff Richard!
